3 Common Life Coaching Questions Answered

Question 1: How much can I expect to make as a life coach?

Before entering into any career, it is wise to consider the salary potential. After all, you will need to support yourself and your family. As a life coach, there are a wide range of salaries possible, depending on several factors. A recent study indicates that the average life coach salary is approximately $61,000 per year. Of course, this number is dependent upon things such as: whether the coach works part-time or full-time, the geographic area in which the coach works, the length of time the coach has been practicing and whether they are selling additional products or services.

Like starting any new business, it can take time to get your coaching practice off the ground. We can almost guarantee that you will not graduate and start earning a six-figure salary that week. It takes time to build up your client list and to develop your skills. The most successful coaches are those who genuinely care about what they are doing, continue to gain education and experience and have invested in themselves and their careers.

Question 2: What does the average workday look like for a life coach?

One of the perks of being a life coach is that there is great flexibility. While many people choose to work from an office outside of the home from 9 to 5, other coaches love the ability to dictate their own schedules and establish the kind of work-life balance that they desire. Life coaches, in general, have the freedom to structure their workdays as they wish. This means that they can create their day in a way that allows them to be most productive and of greatest service to their clients.

Some coaches see clients in person, while others have some combination of in-person, virtual and telephone coaching sessions. Some coaches choose to see clients in the morning, leaving their afternoons to the business of coaching, such as invoicing, marketing and continuing education. Whatever structure you want is up to you!

Question 3: How do I know if I would make a good life coach?

This is perhaps one of the most common questions we receive, and one of the most difficult to answer. Why? While we can offer advice based on our years of experience working with coaches from around the world, you are ultimately the one who knows if coaching is the right fit for you. However, we do recommend asking yourself specific questions before diving into a life coach training program.

The first question is always: Are you passionate about helping other people? Helping others is at the heart of what life coaches do. Successful life coaches are also compassionate, effective communicators and great listeners. They are curious and genuinely interested in helping other people achieve their goals.

On the more practical side of things, the most successful life coaches also have a desire to be business people. They have an interest in learning how to market their businesses so it can be scaled to whatever level they desire.
