How To Scale Your Life Coaching Business

Imagine this scenario: you’ve become a certified life coach and you are growing your business working one-on-one with clients. You are helping people reach their full potential, creating your own schedule and doing work that you love.

Sounds amazing, right?

For most, this business model of one-on-one coaching is a great way to start out in the field. Many coaches choose to maintain this model throughout their careers, while others feel that they want to diversify their service delivery in order to meet their career and financial goals.

If you fall into the second category, it’s important to think about how you will grow your business in the future, even if you’re not ready right now.

How to Scale Your Life Coaching Business

The reality is: there’s only one of you! You can’t be duplicated so that you can meet with more than one client at a time. The best way to scale your business is to think about new services or products you could offer your clients that provide value and meet their needs.

One of the greatest things about a life coaching career is that there are countless ways to grow your business. You aren’t stuck in one-on-one service delivery if you don’t want to be. And you don’t have to do the same thing as everyone else working in your niche.

Coaching gives you so much flexibility. You are free to choose the products and services that will not only provide additional value to your clients, but will also allow you to stretch yourself, grow and learn professionally.

Let’s talk about some common ways that life coaches scale their businesses.

Before you get started brainstorming potential avenues for growth, you want to think about your current clients and your niche. What products or services will best serve them? What would they be most interested in? What are the most common questions or issues they face? What additional value could you provide?

Group Coaching

One-on-one coaching is the bread-and-butter of life coaching. However, you don’t have to restrict yourself to just one client at a time. One of the easiest ways to grow your practice is to increase the number of clients you work with at once.

As you gain experience, you may see that many clients struggle with similar issues. Use this information to help you determine potential group coaching topics or activities that would be useful to clients in your niche. Group coaching allows you to increase your income by serving more people and creating a powerful community. Plus, once you prepare your group coaching sessions you can use the same template for future sessions, saving you time.

Online Courses and Products

These days, digital products are where it’s at. Online courses, worksheets, journals and other digital materials that clients can purchase and access at any time allow you to reach more people and be open for business 24/7.

Ask your clients what online tools would help them achieve their goals. Are there products that would nicely complement your one-on-one coaching services? Are there services that you currently provide in person that could be made available online? Do your research and you will likely see plenty of opportunities to add a digital component to your coaching business.

Speaking Engagements

Is there one aspect of your coaching practice that you are passionate about? Is there one thing that all of your clients seem to struggle with? Do you want to share information with tens or even hundreds or thousands of people at once?

If so, you should explore opportunities for speaking engagements. Decide on a topic of interest and create a talk that you can give at conferences, retreats or workshops. Choose opportunities where your ideal clients hang out. It may take a little bit of legwork to reach out to event organizers, but if you have something powerful to say and a strong voice, you can find opportunities to speak at large events. Not only do these speaking engagements give you the chance to share your expertise, they also get you in front of potential new clients.

Life coaching offers a ton of opportunities. Your coaching practice can be tailored to meet the needs of clients in so many exciting and interesting ways. If you are currently a life coach or if you are thinking about how to scale your current coaching practice, consider some of the options above.
